Youth Soccer Drills & Skills : Soccer Ball Trapping Skills
ArticlesBlog

My name is Tim Boucher soccer coach of LaSalle
Academy for Expert Village. Notice Ryan now, Ryan’s not doing a good trap he’s just punching
the ball back at the person not in control, using his knee, it’s going all kinds of different
directions. Now if you watch, yes see how he moved to the side, he didn’t stay square
to the ball. You want to stay square to the ball. When you do that it allows the defender
to come up and get the ball. And we’ll switch, go to the chest. Now notice with the chest
we talked about you want to stay square and when you don’t when it comes to your chest
the ball doesn’t brush off of you and go by you, someone else will get the ball. You want
to make sure you control it so that it stays at your feet, so you control the ball. This
is what you don’t want to look like.

  1. You should really try to "settle" the ball when trapping it rather than just letting it hit you. If you let the ball just bounce off you then you have less control of the ball and the other team can take it from you.
