Youth Soccer Drills & Skills : How to Change Directions with a Soccer Ball
ArticlesBlog

My name is Tim Boucher soccer coach of LaSalle
Academy for Expert Village. The next thing we want to talk about is changing directions
when you dribble out, you stop the ball with the top of your foot and you roll it backwards.
Let’s watch these guys as they demonstrate this. You dribble the ball out, stop with
the top of your foot, roll back and go in the opposite direction. Try it too Luis, try
it just a little slower just to show it. Stop, roll back and going back the other direction. And now do it fast, there you go.

  1. i would suggest that both players need to turn in the direction they are pulling the ball back.

Louis pulls it back and then spins the opposite way– which is fine until you have a defender on you… by turning with your pull you keep your body between the ball and the defender.

  2. I think the coach should be saying " stop the ball with the bottom of the foot"
Not the top of the foot. Also when the player is turning they should follow the ball with their head (in the same dirction of the ball)
If this coach would like some more top tips from me, he should email me.

  3. @eonstot pretty much what he means it pull it with your body. you arent shielding or covering the ball when you do that and it's an instant turnover
