(cheering) (muffled sound of band playing) I was really excited about it because I’ve
always been invested in football. I’ve always been very invested in art and
I made a lot of sketches. I was on the sidelines, and I was usually standing by the defensive linemen. (muffled sound of commentator) I ended up going to one game, the Michigan game and from that I am making a 24 x 48 oil painting and it’s going to be kindof an impressionistic
style. I do a lot of abstract stuff, so there will
be some abstract elements in it, too, I’m sure. My favorite part about this is building the
form of these players because as soon as they put on their pads, they turn into almost this
god-like person who is enhanced in every way. They have bigger shoulders, they have bigger
legs, they lumber along, they sway. Everything is exaggerated suddenly, and it’s
an incredible challenge to put these immense forms into play into a piece. “…Daniels with the Iowa touchdown!!” I decided to go with a bigger painting to
capture the whole feel of the game. I also enjoyed the fireworks, so there’s going to be fireworks in there as well. What I want to do is make these players, who
are role models for young kids, and who people put so much pressure on, on a weekly basis,
make them more relate-able, and make them into people again.
