In this clip we’re going to talk about ball
control. It’s very important to be able to keep a soccer ball by your feet while you’re
playing the game. You don’t touch the ball very often but when you do you want to make
sure that you maintain possession of the ball. Possession is very important in this game.
To keep ball control you want to use quick little steps and touches. If you decide to
kick the ball all around then all of the sudden a ball that you thought you possessed somebody
else close by can take the ball away from you because you kicked the ball so far away.
To have the ball close to your feet, you’re able to make quick decisions if somebody’s
coming your way with the soccer ball. With quick touches, you’re also able to change
direction, put a move on somebody. A lot easier and a lot quicker than if the ball is a far
distance away from you because then, again, you’re making a ball that you are possessing
turning it into a 50/50 ball that somebody else might be able to get. Tom’s going to
be demonstrating some ball control for your guys. What he’s going to do is, we’re set
up a number of balls for him to dribble around. What this is going to do is it’s going to
make him keep the ball close to him so he can weave in and out in between each of the
soccer balls. You can do this many different ways. You can use both feet, you can use just
your right foot or you can use just your left foot. It makes you more comfortable with either
foot.
