How To Head A Soccer Ball – Learn How To Head A Soccer Ball With Power

Hey guys. Matt here from Epic Soccer Training.
Welcome back. I want to take you through a video now which is the basic fundamentals
and the correct form of how to head a soccer ball. OK, guys. One of the things that you should
absolutely know is the correct form of how to head a soccer ball. It’s one of those funny
things that when you’re first starting out, it’s kind of weird timing. You’re not really
sure how to do it exactly and then as you get better, you kind of notice, Man, was I
really like that bad at learning how to head a soccer ball? So again, let me bring Chas out here for a
second. Let me teach you the quick form and he’s coming out here. When you’re heading
a soccer ball, what you want to learn is actually the correct part of your head to hit it. When you’re first starting out, a lot of times,
you kind of do this thing or the ball is coming at you and it’s hitting more on the top of
your head and that’s not exactly where you want it. Basically the most control is where
you get it right in the front here which is your I think your frontal part of your skeleton,
those of you that are in medical school. So again what you want to do is keep your
eyes on it. You’re probably going to blink when you do it but make contact. What you
want to do also is when you’re going to head the ball, don’t head it up here because what
you’re going to do is you’re going to lose a lot of power when you do that. If you ever see Brian McBride, any of the
guys from the English Premier League, what they’re doing is they’re waiting at the last
second and they’re driving through the ball with the front part of their head. So again,
you’re hitting right here and now you know where to hit the soccer ball. Now you need to know how because there’s a
little bit of a timing issue and that’s where you actually get the power. You can hit it
here all you want but if you don’t have the right timing, then you’re backing up, you’re
not going to get any power. What you want to do is drive through. The
way that you do that is wait until the ball is you got your body basically locked back
and it’s loaded. It’s ready to explode forward with your upper body and you’re actually going
to get your arms involved too and it’s legal to have your arms or elbows out like this.
You just can’t be flailing them out and punching people in the face despite what they do do
overseas when you get on the high-end leagues. You can kind of get a little elbow but we’re
not going to get into that. So again, you have your body locked back.
What you want to do is wait at the last possible second and then drive through. When you first
start out, that’s what I want you to do. I want you to have ball in hand. Just throw
it up. Drive through and you will see my body is coming forward very quickly. You don’t
want to do it very slowly because you’re not getting a whole lot of power as opposed to
when you’re driving through. Get your arms up. So then what you want to do is I will have
Chas here, ball in hand. What I want to do is start practicing. Boom! And see how I wait
until the last possible second. Boom, right there! Instead of going forward already. See
I’m already losing speed. I’m losing momentum when I do that and again you don’t want to
wait until you’re all the way back so there’s a little bit of a timing issue. Boom, right
there, and it just exploded forward. Then what I want you to do, when you kind
of practice that and again you can practice this on a wall. Just throw it up to the wall.
Work on your headers. Catch the ball again. If you have a partner, it’s great. You can
work your way down the field doing this as well especially backing up. That’s where you’re really going to learn
to get power but what I want you to do is when you’re going on goal, a lot of times
people headed over. So what I want you to practice is when Chas throws me the ball,
you’re aiming at his feet. So again if he throws it out, get it down a little bit and
you will start learning that even though the ball might be right here and you think you
can get it, you might need to jump a little bit and really just throw your body forward
to get it down because you got to think. You’re hitting on top of the ball so again if you
hit it here, it’s going straight. So you got to hit it up here to drive it down. So again, Chas go ahead. See that’s one where
I kind of had to jump a little bit and then what you want to do is work on just basically
driving the ball in the air because this is what’s going to work on not only your timing
but also your aim. So if you’re going to learn how to head a soccer ball, boom! Put it right
back to right around eye level and that’s how you can kind of get it going and then
once you’re done with that, I want you to work on some jumps a little bit. So when Chas throws it up, and drive it down
to his feet. So that was bad timing. So work on that. So those are just a few things to
kind of get you going. Again, work on it with a wall if you don’t have a partner. If you
do, go back and forth down the field. That’s the easiest way. It’s not going to take you
that long if you really just sit out there and practice for an hour or so throughout
the week. So again, that’s how to head a soccer ball
there and don’t forget to subscribe, which I think it’s up here or somewhere. I don’t
know, whatever. Don’t forget to like. Give it a thumbs-up and leave some comments. Let
me know what you think. If there’s something you want to learn, I
come by and answer those comments so again, go through it. Let me know what you need and
if you want to also know how I went from being an average player, maybe I was just like you,
and you want to get to another level. I learned how to train a specific way where it wasn’t
involving practice as much. It was individual training because when you train individually,
you’re going to get better and then when you go out and play with your team, you’re going
to raise the level of play-up and you can help them as well. So if you want to learn how I did that, click
the link right below this video right now to get started and I will see you guys in
the next lesson.

  2. you mean center midfielders or wingers? If what yo umean is center midfielders, THINK. I mean, when you get the ball, lift your head LOOK for a possible pass and THEN pass the ball. always LOOK ahead, think one step ahead, stuff like WHAT WILL MY TEAMMATE DO NEXT? and then you pass the ball. And as for ball backgetting you will need to be STRONG and rely on your stamina to run behind and tackle an oponent. Good luck and have fun!

  12. How do you head a cross on net? Do you use the side of your head? I always head it the way i am facing. Also how can you flick it to the back post with your head

  13. Heading the ball can sometimes depend on the size of the keeper, if he's tall it's going to be hard for him to get down quick so aim for the ground (his feet) but if he's small then try to go high if you can so it's harder for him to reach it but this can be risky because if you don't practice you could head it over
