BRAD: Over the past 20 years with head coach Bobbi Petersen running the program, the competitiveness of the UNI volleyball team has maintained it’s profile as a title contender in the Missouri Valley Conference and tough out in the NCAA Tournament. That competitive nature filters down from it’s head coach and into her players. One player may have a little more of that competitive fire, as Baylee Petersen is the daughter of Bobbi, and hold the same desire to give her very best and find a way to win. JAYDLIN: Baylee is one who once she steps into the gym it is all go all focus the whole time. She is working really hard in the back row getting every touch that she can. Comes in early. Stays late. That type of player. BRAD: It’s no surprise
that number 8, Baylee Baylee has only known her
mom Bobbi as UNI’s head volleyball coach. Now, she knows what it’s
like to be one of mom’s players, and her love for
her mom has only grown. BAYLEE: I think the way she understands the game and explains things is good for players especially the freshmen coming in she balances it out well especially if someone is overwhelmed with stuff. She knows how to back off and focus on 1 or 2 things. BRAD: Backing off is not
a term typically used to describe Bobbi
or even Baylee. If it’s not loving to win,
it might be hating to lose. Bobbi has led UNI to 14
NCAA Tournaments, and Baylee turned in three
high school state championships. Now those forces combined
are both helping the UNI volleyball team. ABBI: When I think about Baylee I think she is so competitive. She wants to win and she is going to do what she can. KARLIE: Not only what we do on the court but also team activities off the court her team wins almost every time. KIM: Baylee is such a hard worker. She gets after it. She gets what she is trying to drive for in each and every drill and same thing in the classroom as well. She is a go getter and a hard worker. BRAD: This sophomore
season, Baylee is focused on locking down the back
row defense, but she also brings maturity. A quality picked up from
being a coaches kid. RACHEL: She has a great heart and is very honest and pure with her intentions. She won’t do what is popular she will just do what is right and that is a great quality in a teammate. We wrap things up with UNI head coach Mark Farley. The Panthers get ready for a 4pm kick off against Youngstown State. Coach, you are a UNI Alum and Hall of Famer always a fun environment and atmosphere inside the Dome on homecoming. It is always fun any day inside the Dome but on homecoming I get to see the former players whether they were when I was the head coach, assistant coach, or played with them. So a lot of these guys coming back now have a connection and being involved in those games talking about and it is really nice to see those guys come back and their memories of what this place did for them and what they did as a group. Once we get to 4pm you are going to be looking to move this team to 3-2 overall a tough YSU team comes in. A hard nosed football team and should be a great battle. It is your typical Bo Pelini football team. It is going to be great on defense, going to run the football, and will be tough. YSU is always good they are undefeated right now at 4-0 so another huge battle for us in the Dome. We will get a lot of these as we get into MVFC schedule. What do you want to see from your team on Saturday making sure they are taking that step in the right direction and getting that win. We need to play with the attitude that needs to be played with across the board from special teams, to offense, to defense we need to be able to play this game with the attitude we played with in the 2nd half but we have to do it for 4 quarters. Alright, thanks coach good luck on Saturday the panthers take on YSU it is a top 20 battle in FCS football it will be in the Dome on Homecoming get to the Dome to support your Panthers on this Saturday. Thanks for joining us today on Panther Sports Talk
