Australian indigenous basketball team experience Māori culture

The NZ Maori Men’s basketball team take on the Australian Indigenous
team in two tests this week. But for the Australian side, there’s more to the tour
than basketball; they’ve also had the opportunity
to experience the Maori culture. Rapaera Tawhai has more. A sharing of skills, Maori to Maori. It’s a good opportunity for us
to learn from these huge players, to help develop our skills
in basketball, the sport that we love. This is the visiting team’s
third time to NZ, and they will play
the Maori men’s side twice. But this is their first visit
to a Maori school in Te Wharekura o Mauao. It’s great that they’ve come to share their knowledge with us. It’s good for me
to learn new skills ahead of the national basketball
competition next week. They also stayed
at Te Wairoa Marae in Tauranga. The team has won more games
than the Maori team, but it could be different
this year. They have won more games, but let’s wait and see for Friday and Saturday. The game will begin at 7:30pm
this Friday. Rapaera Tawhai, Te Karere.
