>>>AUSSIE RULES FOOTBALL IS A PHYSICAL SPORT. DIE-HARD FANS MUST HAVE BEEN SURPRISED WHAT THEY WITNESSED IN THIS MATCHUP OF THE WEEKEND. ONE GUY IS ON TOP OF THE OTHER ONE, COLLIDES, SLAMS INTO THE GROUND IN WHAT LOOKS LIKE A BAR FIGHT THAN WHAT YOU WOULD SEE ON THE GRASS. WHEN A PLAYER APPEARS TO CHOKE THE OTHER GUY, BEFORE YOU SEE THE WHOLE SCRUM CAM OVER, HOLD OFF. HE HAS BEEN AS SPENDED NOW. NOT FOR CHOKING, LAURA RUTLEDGE OF CNN SPORTS. WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED?>>OH, MAN. THAT VIDEO IS TRULY DISTURBING. BRIAN LAKE, THE GUY WHO IS DOING THE CHOKING, HE ACTUALLY TURNS OUT HE IS LIKE THE AFL’S EQUIVALENT TO NFL SUPER BOWL MVP. HE IS REALLY WELL RESPECTED. HE SAYS HE WASN’T TRYING TO CHOKE DREW PETRI HERE. HE WAS JUST TRYING TO GET HOLD OF HIS JERSEY. THE AFL TRIBUNAL HANDED DOWN THEIR SUSPENSION FOR LAKE FOR THIS INCIDENT.>>IS THAT ENOUGH?>>THEY SAY IT’S ONLY FOR AGGRESSIVE WRESTLING, INSTEAD OF CHOKING. AGGRESSIVE WRESTLING IS A LESSER PENALTY. IT’S DIFFERENT. THE AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE MARKETS ITSELF AS BEING SUPER AGGRESSIVE, VERY PHYSICAL. THAT’S HOW THEY ATTRACT THE FANS THAT THEY DO ATTRACT. IF YOU NOTICE IN THE VIDEO, THEY OBVIOUSLY ARE NOT WEARING PADS. THEY DON’T HAVE HELMETS ON THEY HAVE SKIMPY UNIFORMS, TOO. THERE IS NOT A LOT GOING ON THERE. IT’S SIMILAR TO THE NFL IN PASS DECADES. IT’S A SITUATION WHERE I THINK THEY’RE LOOKING AT HOW CAN THEY CONTINUE TO ATTRACT FAN SUPPORT AND NOT TAKE TOO MUCH EXCITEMENT OUT OF THE GAME, BUT ALSO BE CONCERNED ABOUT PLAYER SAFETY. WE’VE SEEN OTHER LEAGUES ADJUST TO THAT. MAYBE THE AFL IS STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW EXACTLY THEY CAN ADJUST.

  1. If I was on the team of the guy getting choked, I would of kicked that mofo's head off. You see him dragged that guy…FUK!

  2. Clearly the other guy was with the American teen in Palestine throwing molotov cocktails and stabbing cops and throwing rocks sith slingshots and chasing people with poop sticks and Brian works for the idf so he is fully justified using force on any non jews. Cnn just must not have got the memo from Israel that Brian is a team member.

  3. Why does CNN have hot white women talk about Australia football??? Am I supposed too pay attention now???

  4. If you want to question if 4 a week ban was enough you should consider that guys wrestle like this in most AFL matches, even throwing weighted punches to chins/necks of opponents and rarely even copping a penalty (free kick).  The choking act was obviously pushing the limits and a momentary lose of sanity on Lakes part (really weird to see happen), but 4 weeks is pretty tough in our books. I don't follow either club and I think it was a low and dirty act, but 4 weeks is justified and what we all expected him to get.

Aussie rules is a hard hitting, fast paced game. Check out videos of the hard hits in AFL and this seems far less serious.

  5. I have grow playing Aussie rules football and it is hard sport but to choke another player is just a sign of weakness

  6. The guys who is choking deservs to be banned for the rest of his life…
What a disgrace for the sport.
He also should go to jail for a while..

  7. Ok after watching this video there are so many things that are wrong including the reporters information and some of the comments below.
    1. This is australian rules football which if you live in australia is just known as footy or football. it is a game between hawthorn and north melbourne which are one of the 18 teams in the afl league and here they are in alphabetical order.
     Adelaide Football Club
    Brisbane Lions
    Carlton Football Club
    Collingwood Football Club
    Essendon Football Club
    Fremantle Football Club
    Geelong Football Club
    Gold Coast Football Club
    Greater Western Sydney Football Club
    Hawthorn Football Club
    Melbourne Football Club
    North Melbourne Football Club
    Port Adelaide Football Club
    Richmond Football Club
    St Kilda Football Club
    Sydney Swans
    West Coast Eagles
    Western Bulldogs
    2. The reporters are obviously american and majority of americans have a rough idea about what afl is but its kind of like they have the same knowledge about afl as australians have knowledge about american football.
AFL and rugby are completely different sports they have nothing to do with each other and hardly any similarities. there is no scrum in afl which i heard the reporter say "and then the whole scrum comes over" there is no scrum in afl.
But what makes me angry the most is that CNN is a news show that is professional and is supposed to get its information correct this is the worst false info the reporter said: she said that brian lake is the equivalent to the nfl mvp in australian rules football WRONG! brian lake plays for hawthorn, hawthorn where in the grand final last year at the end of the game when hawthorn won the umpires choose a man of the ,match or best on ground which is called the Norm Smith Medal so that is what brian lake got awarded but that is not the equivalent to mvp in afl there is no mvp instead we have the brownlow medal which is awarded to one player every year and they get a certain amount of votes for every game given by the umpires at the end of the year the brownlow ni9ght comes and whoever has the most votes wins brian lake has not won a brownlow so they got there information very wrong.
also fans where not mindblown but just a bit confused as to what lake had to go to such dramatic consequences and the reporters made it look like drew petrie was loosing air and almost dying but actually lake was barly holding his neck and if you watch the video in not slow motion u will see he holds the neck for like 3 seconds so this video is so wrong the reporters need to get there information right.

  8. Violence is what attracted the Romans to the Colosseum. Violence is why boxing, martial arts and MMA are so popular. Hell ! It's even popular when it's fake, staged violence, as in World Championship Wrestling.
It might not sit easy with us and most of us don't want anyone to get badly hurt or worse but people love watching men in their prime, violently going at each other.
Indeed, even watching a couple of women in a seriously feisty cat fight is worth watching.

  9. "AFL trying to attract supporters"  hahaha AFL is one of the most supported sports in the world.

English Premier League soccer and NFL teams would do anything to be able to average 50,000 people to a game

  10. Such a complete lack of understanding of the game and misconception on the whole footy culture. We supporters are not attracted by the "super aggressive" game, nor does the AFL market it like that to attract crowds. accurate journalism as always america.

  11. This is disgraceful firstly the reason he wasn't reported for choking is because Petrie said to the tribunal he wasn't choked. Secondly look at your own sport and talk about unwanted violence in sport.

  12. Brian Lake an MVP

    hahahhahahahhhahahahhahahahahhahahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahhaahhahahahah

    dumb blonde

  13. I find the American conclusions funny. There is no concerns about attracting fans. Aussie football is like a religion, it is like combining the fans of American football with the fans of Basketball as one big sport. Just look up a game and look at the size of the crowd. Remember the stadium has a field twice as long and twice as wide as American fields so they are much bigger too.

  14. Just for any Americans watching this who don't know; 99% (no, that's actually not an exaggeration) of what is said in this video is completely false. Especially the part about trying to attract a fan base.
Go watch your padded up pussies trying to do sport.

  15. omg lol….this is hilarious. Aussie chick here…and no…we don't endorse "aggressive" behaviour in the afl. Lol as to what the anchors are saying.
How about you watch a while season of afl and get to know the rules and game before handing out comments on something you know nothing about. Btw I'm pretty sure the nhl endorses fights on the ice ~

  16. Lakey!!!!!! I'm an Aussie and can name a dozen Superbowl MVP's. Can that blonde lady(gotta be nice in case she wants to sue) name just ONE Brownlow medalist? It's a shame the cultural exchange goes mostly one way. C'mon America, live a little. Go Hawks, get that FAB 4!!!!

  17. The AFL has also taken a big stance on the treatment of concussions and other head injuries. Something the NFL is in denial about. I think you have a head injury Laura

  18. This is a pretty biased analysis of the game – AFL isn't marketed as an extremely rough sport and this is not a common occurance you muppet

  19. I would like to know which idiot told her that Brian lake was like the MVP because he is not brownlow medal quality. he's good but he's no where near Dangerfield or Fyfe

  20. wtf are these americans saying. nfl and mlb get less than 50000 people a match, and there saying and also nfl is way more dangerous so dont shit americans you dirty fucks
